What Is Functional Fitness Training?

Functional fitness exercises train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work or in sports. While using various muscles in the upper and lower body at the same time, functional fitness exercises also emphasize core stability.

Why do we do this?

At Solid Rock Training our mission statement is “Train for Life.” So, why is that important? We want to help everyday people perform better in all aspects of their life and we believe that functional fitness training is the best way to do so.

How do we do this?

We do this with a system that encompasses our company’s four rocks. Our four rocks are nutrition, mobility, strength, and endurance. We believe these are crucial aspects to being a relatively fit human being which will allow youn to feel better, look better, and perform better in every area of your life. So how do we optimize the way you think, move, and fuel? We do so through our unique training program.

Upon enrollment into a program you are set up with an individual goal setting strategy where you are given a Solid Nutrition guide. The Solid Nutrition guide is an educational manual on how to eat healthy longterm, so you can have sustainable results. By setting goals during this time it gives you a specific focus every time you show up for a workout, so you can push yourself outside of your comfort zone because we all know that is where the magic happens. Let’s dive into the nuts and bolts of what Solid Rock Training’s program is all about.

Monday and Thursday we offer our Solid Strength program. On these days we focus on slowing down the workout to focus on relative strength and our ATP-CP energy system. The goal is to develop relative strength through the six functional movement patterns (push, pull, squat, lunge, hinge, and carry). By being strong in these movement patterns you are going to increase your mobility, strengthen muscle tissue (ligaments & tendons), and increase bone density. The name of the game is longevity and that is what we are here to help you achieve.

Tuesday and Friday we offer our Solid Metabolic Conditioning program. On these days we focus on short bursts of high intensity work followed by short rest cycles. During this program we implement the six functional movement patterns, while working on our anaerobic energy system. The goal of the program is to spike your heart rate to boost your metabolism into overdrive. While doing so we increase cardiovascular output and increase caloric burn post exercise.

Wednesday and Saturday we offer our Solid Endurance program. On these days we focus on long durations of work followed by a short rest cycle or just a continues work cycle. The goal of this program is to develop muscular endurance and our aerobic energy system. We will utilize the six functional movement patterns with bodyweight, lightweight, or bands on these days and compliment them with a form of running, rowing, or biking.

As you can see our company rocks are implemented in all aspects of our program. The question we get asked all of the time is, “How do I know if this program is for me?” That might be the easiest question we get asked. We have created a unique system with work to rest cycles that makes it for everyone. All movements can be modified, which make it scalable for everyone. Our system is set up to have four people per station, which allows for a personalized coaching experience in a large group setting. We have people who are extremely fit and people who have never stepped foot in a gym and are several hundred pounds over weight. We have an even mixture of men and women in our gym, which creates a fun diverse community. We believe everyone has to start somewhere, but it is up to you to make the decision to start.

We have set our membership offerings up to progress people into living a complete lifestyle of fitness. We offer a 2x or 3x a week membership, which is a great starting point for people especially if you have never worked out before. The goal for people that start out working out 2-3x per week is to eventually move up to an unlimited membership. The reason for this is to get optimal results. We know that when you work out 4-6x a week with our program you’ll get those results. That is why we set the specific days the way we have through out our weekly training cycle. We promise that if you can stay disciplined and consistent in your training and nutrition you are going to fall in love with working out. Why is this? You are going to love the way your body begins to feel, look, and performs. It is addicting and our goal is to help you get to this point, so you can live a healthy long life.

The exciting news is that we are just getting started. We are going to be launching a 3 level baseline test of what relative strength and endurance are. This is going to be a great way for the “Rocker” community to track their overall results and fitness level. We won’t spill the beans just yet and tell you what the 10 baseline tests are, you will just have to stick around and wait for next months blog.
